
At the 20th CII India-Africa Conclave, India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal set a target to double bilateral trade with Africa to over $160 billion by 2030, noting that current trade stands at $82 billion. He emphasized Africa’s potential to boost exports of critical minerals, petroleum, and agriculture, while India can provide automobiles, pharmaceuticals, technology, and industrial expertise. Logistics, reduced non-tariff barriers, and stronger connectivity were identified as key enablers, alongside cooperation in value chains to move Africa beyond raw material exports. Goyal also highlighted India’s digital solutions like UPI as tools to lower remittance costs and foster inclusive growth, framing the partnership as a driver of global supply chain transformation and South South cooperation.
