Djibouti is strengthening its role as a strategic maritime hub through a new 30-year concession agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) to operate and develop the Port of Tadjourah. The partnership will transform the underused facility into a multi-purpose terminal capable of handling five million tons of cargo annually. The project aligns with Djibouti’s vision to expand its northern transport infrastructure and capitalize on growing Ethiopian trade. Coupled with Ethiopia’s planned $1.58 billion railway link to the port, the move positions Djibouti at the center of emerging trade routes across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea corridor.
