Djibouti has inaugurated the Djibouti Ship Repair Yard (DSRY), a $116 million facility positioned at the entrance of the Bab el-Mandeb, one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors linking Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Developed in partnership with Damen Shipyards Group and financed by Invest International, the yard features a 217-meter floating dock with a 20,100-tonne lifting capacity, making it the largest ship repair facility in the Red Sea and East Africa. Designed to handle both routine maintenance and complex vessel repairs, the project strengthens Djibouti’s role as a critical logistics and maritime hub, particularly for landlocked Ethiopia’s trade flows. Beyond infrastructure, the facility is expected to generate over 1,700 jobs and build local technical expertise, reinforcing long-term capacity in regional shipping and logistics services.
