The 2025 China-Ethiopia Industry Matchmaking Event in Addis Ababa spotlighted logistics and trade collaboration under BRICS, a bloc of emerging economies — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Ethiopia is expanding its maritime fleet to strengthen import and export capacity, with a focus on essential goods like fertilizer. The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics enterprise already operates 10 ships that handled most of the country’s 1.9 million tons of fertilizer imports through Djibouti last year.

Djibouti’s economy is set to expand by 6% in 2025, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), fueled by Ethiopia’s growing demand for its port services.
