March 09,2026

Ethiopia and Djibouti have agreed to deepen cooperation to improve the performance of the Doraleh Port, Ethiopia’s main maritime gateway, during talks between Ambassador Legesse Tulu and Doraleh CEO Abdullahi Adaweh. The port, which handles 95% of Ethiopia’s foreign trade, saw 9.5 million tons of Ethiopian cargo in 2025 and contributes around 80% of Djibouti’s national income. The two countries aim to streamline operations, implement key performance indicators, and enhance regional integration while navigating growing strategic competition in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb corridor. These efforts are crucial for Ethiopia to maintain trade efficiency and manage rising logistics costs amid regional infrastructure and security developments.
