The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced an 80% waiver on storage charges for domestic and transit containers that have overstayed at the Port of Mombasa for more than 21 days. The waiver, valid until November 6, 2025, allows cargo owners to reduce costs by applying within the notice period. KPA warned that uncollected transit containers will be transferred to the Naivasha Inland Container Depot at the owner’s expense. This initiative aims to decongest the port and improve cargo flow efficiency. Overall, the directive is a positive move that benefits cargo owners while boosting port productivity.
